Setting-Up Camp:

You don’t have to own a cabin in the mountains to create your own camp.  Most of the things in our little cabin were collected over many years and displayed in Lori’s home before our cabin dream came true.  By surrounding yourself with camp collections you not only inspire your state of living but you can also help make your dream of a cabin in the woods a reality.

 Surrounding Yourself With Favorite Collections

Collect anything that catches your fancy and surround yourself with things that inspire a Camp Whimsy state of mind.
The picture at right shows Lori’s collection of Santas.  Some are antique, some were purchased new over the last 20 years, and some were hand painted by Lori and her daughters Stacey and Kim when the girls were young.  This little cabinet of Santas has found a happy home at the cabin!
Kim’s favorite spot at the cabin is the small sleeping porch at the back of the house.  We painted it her favorite shade of barely blue and decorated it with starfish and old jars full of shells
that Lori collected from various trips.  This little seaside themed room is perfectly whimsical and happy in our little cabin in the woods!
Our family is a family of dog lovers and we often bring two of our dogs, Riley and Gertie with us to the cabin.  Genevieve’s room upstairs in the cabin is devoted to dogs.  Vintage dog figur
ines and prints live happily in here, dogs can even be found printed on the cozy flannel sheets! Kim’s two-year old daughter Audrey is our newest dog fan and is delighted when we take her upstairs to spend some time in Genevieve’s dog room! Check out our collection of note cards featuring vintage images of dogs as well as our mother of pearl pendants adorned with vintage dogs in Camp Goods.

Outdoor Spaces. We like them Simple!!

At 4800 feet we get a lot of snow at the cabin.  Each year as spring melts away revealing summer we put out our chairs, hang up our lights and Chinese lanterns and put out the hammock.  There is a small old building at the back of the cabin that we have turned into a Tiki Lounge.  The Tiki Lounge is full of beads, potholder making supplies, paints and various other craft supplies that Genevieve and her teenage friends use to create their own cabin crafts.  This is their own special spot to hang out.  Someday Audrey and her baby brother Strauss will inherit this special spot for kids.
Consider stringing some Chinese lanterns and globe lights around a good spot to sit.  Place some vintage lawn chairs or even some of those plastic Adirondack style chairs that are now widely available in a grouping.  If you don’t have a fire pit for roasting marshmallows you can use a Barbeque! Bring a little stereo outside and play some relaxing music or fun oldies to set the tone! Put some ice in a large galvanized tub and fill it with old fashioned bottles of Coke, Root Beer and Cream Soda.  You can set up a fun outside camp environment anywhere, even in the middle of a city!! Invite a few close friends and their kids over and have a blast!
Consider holding your own camps for friends and family.  We have had a few Cousin Camps for the younger ones. We have also had our own  Scrapbooking Camp where we gathered to do as many pages as we could in our photo albums!  Get creative, the sky is the limit when it comes to creating your own Camp Whimsy!
