Camp
Whimsy Girls:
Camp
Whimsy was started by a mother and her daughters.
The mother is Lori Hawkins and the daughters are
Stacey and Genevieve Hawkins and Kim Giffin. Lori
has spent much of her life living on a farm with her
daughters. The family raises hogs, numerous adopted
dogs and cats, chickens, bunnies and the occasional
goat or lamb. Lori and her husband Cy moved their
three girls from their farm on the central coast of
California to Northern California and the Sacramento
Valley nearly 15 years ago. Our love of farm
animals and farm life inspires some of our Camp
Whimsy creations (check out our
farm animal greeting
cards!) The area we live in gets pretty hot in
the summer and many generations of families have
kept cabins in the mountains where they go to escape
the valley heat. For many years our family rented a
cabin near Yosemite for one week each summer. It
was the fond memories of time spent together at that
cabin which led to the dream of owning our own.
In 2004 we came across a little cabin near
Mt. Lassen in Northern California. It needed some
love and care but it was in a quaint spot and the
price was right so Lori’s dream of her own cabin
became a reality. Lori spent the first winter
painting the
inside of the
cabin and deciding how she would decorate. She
finally had a home for her many and varied cabin
collectables. Years of dreaming of her own cabin
while at the farm had manifested in a farm house
decorated with antique farm animal collections
co-existing in a happy home with vintage fishing
creels, pennants, many old prints of cabins and
fish, and antique picnic tins. One truckload at a
time Lori hauled her treasured collections to the
mountains.
The result of Lori’s years of collecting and eye
for design is a cozy little cabin in the mountains
that has quickly become our
favorite
place to gather and relax. All of her life Lori has
crafted. It is a passion she shared with her
daughters. It was at the cabin that we began to
create our products for Camp Whimsy (check them out
in Camp Goods). The cabin allows us the
opportunity to create without the distractions of
being at home. Over the July 4th 2006
holiday we held our own Craft Sale at the cabin. A
few people out on walks came by and all of our cabin
neighbors stopped in. We had a great time and even
sold some of our handcrafted items. We did another
craft sale at home around Thanksgiving and received
great feedback from the customers there. In 2007 we
decided to make a business out of doing what we love
and Camp Whimsy was officially started. We hope you
will enjoy the things we create and be inspired to
create your own Camp, whether it be one in the
mountains, or one in your own home in the city or
even on the farm!! Visit
